It was a fast delivery. The disc was scratch free and worked flawlessly as soon as i got it. To me with all the movies that i have, this one looked new even tho the description said it was used. VERY VERY HAPPY WITH IT!

I watched this movie ALL the time when I was little (I had and still have a huge crush on Jason Scott Lee) because I was always so happy to see all the adventure and the classic happy ending. This movie is great for boys and girls and should be on the shelf of any true Disney fan. It can be somewhat pricey now but it's worth it!

This 1994 Disney movie and the much older version starring Sabu (first filmed and released to old fashioned movie theaters in 1942) are both excellent movie adaptations of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book. A better version plays in my mind when I read Kipling's collection of short stories, complete with three dimensional living color and infinite point one surround sound, but there is a bit of a problem with putting it on a dvd and selling it to you. Until that problem is solved, you'll have to make do with what's currently available on dvd and a new Jungle Book movie now being made by the BBC, due out in 2010. Did I say make do? HA! Until the dvd that I recently ordered from Amazon UK arrives, I can only tell you about the Jungle Book I saw on tv. The colors were breathtakingly vibrant for standard definition tv, the sound was engaging (on my home theater system), the story was the sort of rip roaring adventure that Kipling wrote so well and not one single human or other animal decided to start singing. Yea! The animals all looked like wild animals in a jungle, which isn't always the case with jungle flicks. Well, except for the big snake. It looked more like rubber. But you don't see it for long. Ladies and gays will love seeing young, handsome, muscular Jason Scott Lee in a loin cloth as Mowgli, the jungle boy, now a man. I believe he was 27 or 28 when he made this flick, but he looks younger. Cary Elwes (main hero of Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights, director of two episodes of Pinky and the Brain) made a wonderfully evil villain. The talented and beautiful Lena Headey (star of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles) is Mowgli's young love interest. Multi-talented John Cleese (Basil in Faulty Towers, Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter movies) makes a great slightly befuddled professor. Sam Neil(Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park #1 & #3) makes a very good, rather stuffy British army colonel and father. I was so impressed by what I saw on tv that I just had to order it. There were two choices for getting it on dvd: pay a rip-off price at Amazon USA or buy it for about twenty bucks from Amazon UK, counting the exchange rate and shipping. Of course, it would be a region 2 PAL dvd. No problem, I bought a JVC all region dvd player with a built in PAL to NTSC converter 5 or 6 years ago to play PAL box sets of the oldest and best sitcom in the world: Last of the Summer Wine. (Well, I did have a sort of a dvd player that kind of did the job before that, but I'd rather not talk about it. Never buy a brand name you've never heard of, especially if it sounds like a cat sneezing.) Strange as it seems to me, some people don't care for Last of the Summer Wine. No accounting for taste. There are many tv shows and movies either only available in England or cheaper there. Can you find enough of them to make buying a special player worthwhile? If so, search Amazon and/or the web for "PAL dvd player" or "code free dvd player" or 'all region dvd player". If you download the Web Of Trust and do a google search for code free dvd player sellers , you can check out the seller without even going to the website. At the website, a Better Business Bureau logo is always reassuring. Read the return policy carefully. Make sure the player you choose can convert PAL to NTSC. Some require an expensive separate converter. Buy a major brand name, not a cat sneeze brand. If that all seems like too much trouble, the cheapest used Jungle Book dvd on Amazon USA is fifty bucks counting shipping (as of 3/27/09). It's a wonderful movie but I'm not sure if it's worth that much. Then again, maybe it is. I'll add an update as soon as I've watched my PAL dvd a few times. In the meantime, why don't you check out Amazon UK to see if you can find any other good movies or tv shows that are unavailable or more expensive here. Look up your favorite actors (of either gender) at the Internet Movie DataBase, then click on "shop at Amazon" on the left near the top. The page you're taken to will list all the actor's movies available or once available on dvd, and give you links to them on Amazon and Amazon UK. I just got an email that my movie is already in the mail and on it's way to me. The Jungle Book that I saw on tv was full screen, standard resolution and in stereo, but it still impressed the heck out of me. I'll add an update to this when I've enjoyed the dvd upconverted, widescreen and in surround sound.

A complete waste of money & time

I thought from some of the other reviews that my son would enjoy watching this and learn more about using the potty from other kids. He just turned two and we are just starting to explore potty training. This is a very, very basic instructional video aimed at parents who don't have a clue as to where to begin. Additionally I thought "Dr. Betty's" approach to potty training was so low key that parents using this method might find themselves with a 1st grader still wearing pull up diapers. This video is getting tossed in the yard sale box.

When my cousin related how he and his wife were not succeeding at toilet training their son, I had heard another friend of mine talk about how easy it was using some tape his wife had purchased. I found out the tape was called "Let's Go Potty", and sent a copy to my cousin.

Both he and his wife have still not stopped thanking me for that tape. While it is not 'instant magic', it did provide a 'live action' pediatrician's INFORMATION and EXAMPLES to move their son into dry toilet training undies quicker than they expected.

My cousins said that Dr. Betti Hertzberg did a great job of making the presentation to them, and say "THANKS Dr. Betti".

Very disappointed.

When I ordered this video, I based my decision on the ratings it had received. I was very excited when I finally received it and sat down as soon as I got home to watch it. I watched the entire video and at the end was very disappointed with the content. I was so hoping to get some new insight on potty training my son. But this video showed me absolutely nothing I didn't already know and hadn't already tried. I'm sure this video would be great for those parents who don't have the first ounce of common sense.

This video was a great overview of the toilet training process. Perfect for busy parents. Dr. Hertzberg outlines the steps of the process in a concise, intelligent way. She discusses readiness (child's readiness, as well as the parent's emotional preparation for the process!), staying motivated, positive encouragement with emphasis on self-esteem, how to best reward successes and why a child may experience regression. I particularly liked her viewpoint on hygiene. This video is great information for parents. But the bonus I found while I watched is my 23 month old son watched it with me, with great interest! The whole video! I think he liked seeing other children in action. I use this video to keep us both on task.

Delightful!
Rating (5)
Date: 2010-05-22

I was a little apprehensive about watching this film since I had such fond memories of the book. And Frances McDormand as a nun... she who played in so many of the bloody Coen brothers movies?!

Not to worry! The whole film perfectly captured the magic and charm of the original. In fact I think it improved on it. And McDormand was wonderful as Ms. Clavell! She played her just right---proper and strict but warm hearted and funny, too. I loved her ride in the old Deux Chevaux with Genevieve, the Lab, beside her. It's a role that could have been terrible hammed up but FM was perfect. It's nice not to see nuns caricatured.

Hatty Jones was just right as Madeline, too. Having cringed at too many cutesy child performers I was wary about this, too. But, again, this Madeline was just the right mix of cute, spunky and smart....none of those qualities being overplayed.

The whole cast was terrific. I enjoyed the appearances of the various Ambassadors, from the Spanish one and his wife who lived next door to the ones from Liberia and Uzbekistan who were house shopping. Each one was just perfect. Great dog, too!

Last but not least was the amazing city of Paris! There were just enough beautiful shots of the city to add to the enjoyment of the film.

The director did a super job of presenting this material in a way that hit all the right tones. The story is really sort of silly but it's told in a way that totally lifts your heart into that place of childhood magic and innocence.

I had downloaded Madeline from Netflix for my granddaughters and every time they came over they wanted to watch it - so I have no choice but to love the movie. Netflix yanked it from their Instant Viewing menu so I had to have a copy. It arrived quickly and in very good shape.

I find that there are some very fine and overlooked family and children movies, Madeline, being one of them. Mrs. Arris Goes to Paris(with Angela Lansbury, Omar Shariff and other wonderful talent) is another one. I rented Madeline and loved it, for all the reasons stated in previous posts. Makes a great family gift!

a great film after about fifteen minutes

Date: 2009-11-13

I'm not a seven year old girl, so it's fair to say I'm probably not the target audience- but the wife is an elementary school librarian, so occasionally I find myself watching a movie I don't believe I'd pick out for myself.

That said, I enjoyed this movie. The first fifteen minutes were a bit hard to watch- this is a live action movie that needs to connect with illustrated classic it was made from - so we get the classic lines from the classic books, which verges on chringe-worthy when Madeline says Pooh-Pooh to the tiger in the zoo.

Once the homage to the book is made, the movie does much better. Frances McDormand makes a wonderful Miss Clavel, Pepito is spot on, and Madeline is quite good.

The hijinks and high spirited goofs are good, and the adventure that caps the movie is, on the main, believable.

Worth watching-

I love the TRUE story of Noah's Ark. This video shows the ark in a colorful way. James Earl Jones made a wonderful narrator; the music was wonderful. It lookes as if it took alot of animators, paint, and time just to draw the animals. I liked the scene when the dove returned to the ark with an olive leaf. This movie is one of the best Noah's Ark films ever!

Modernism ruins it

...I bought this DVD so my kid and I could enjoy something, together. The premise seemed cool; Scooby and the gang go to New England to solve a mystery. But, the fact that the producers and writers tried to make being Wiccan, cool, infuriated me. I wonder if they would produce such a movie, shedding the same positive light on Catholics. I have 2 ex-Hollywood friends who agree that secularism has totally taken over film and media. This is just another example of it. Any potential buyers, stick to the original series.

Ya it mentions Wicca. HOWEVER,...
Rating (5)
Date: 2010-08-10

When I was about 8 years old (Im about to turn 21) they started coming out with new Scooby Doo movies and Scooby Doo and the Witches Ghost was my absolute favorite.
I've noticed that a LOT of people have given this movie 1 star because they feel that the wiccan aspects of this film are too much for their children.
I would just like to say this: If you have a child that is very curious and willing to do leg work to gain further information pertaining to wicca and that would bother you as their parent, then I dont suggest letting your kid watch this. I was that type of child but my mother didnt prescreen anything I watched plus the first time I saw this film it was on Cartoon Network.
On the other hand if you have a child that you think will take the movie for what it is and not think a thing of it after its over then I wouldnt worry too much about the wiccan influences.
The thing is, while there are mentions of Wicca, its not totally accurate and kind of sugar coats it. When Velma defines what a Wiccan is she says something to the effect of "Wiccans were healers who used the power of nature". Yes, Wiccans are all about nature and can be into herbal healing but to say that Wiccans are HEALERS and not participants in the RELIGION of Wicca is really sugar coating it for their viewing audience. Also the movie insinuates that to be Wiccan is like being Italian or British or Polish ect. Seriously, Thorn, the lead singer of the Hex Girls, claims to be 1/16 Wiccan. What??
I cant even begin to guess why they decided to throw Wicca into this story. But is it offensive? No. Is it damaging to traditional Christian, Jewish, ect beliefs? No. Is it even accurate and educating its viewers on the religion of Wicca? No! To be honest I truly feel that all the people who gave it 1 star because of the wiccan influences (who I can only assume are serious Christians or Jews or ect) should be glad... this movie actually makes a total mockery of the religion and down plays it to look like something that should be lumped in with mummies, zombies and vampires.
Its a cute movie and fun to watch but if you are concerned that your overly ambitious child is going to research and learn about Wicca, then avoid this movie at all costs!

we LOVE Scooby, but not the PRO-WICCAN message in this one

My children were particularly scared by the characters in this Scooby-Doo, with the very dark rock music. But we were most disturbed by the pro-wiccan message at the end. Don't buy this movie unless you want your children to think wiccan is a great lifestyle. We watched this once and threw it out - in fact, my 6 year-old threw it out happily for me. We didn't even want to pass it on to someone else. I have always loved Scooby-Doo and the distinction between good guys and bad guys, but the lines are blurred in this one. There are lots of other great Scooby's out there - we really like Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase or Where's My Mummy.

The themes presented in this Scooby Doo movie are not at all age appropriate for the targeted audience. What I used to love about Scooby Doo is that the monsters were never real and in the end the mystery was solved. I wish I had pre-screened this one before letting my 5 y.o. watch it. Bad decision on my part. I'd love to see them put as much Christian propaganda into a Scooby Doo movie as the pro-wiccan propaganda featured in this film.
