Product Description
In her most ambitious novel yet, the powerhouse author of more than 20 New York Times bestsellers weaves a tale of murder, passion, and intrigue in the pristine corridors of the White House. After her child supposedly dies from sudden infant death syndrome, the First Lady asks her old friend, broadcast journalist Barrie Travis, to investigate.

Amazon.com Review
Watergate, Schmatergate, get a load of this: a dead infant, a sleazy president, a manic-depressive first lady, an aide that makes G. Gordon Liddy look like a wuss, murder, adultery, a thousand skeletons peeping from a thousand closets. Exclusive moves so quickly because somebody is always doing something bad. TV journalist Barrie Travis interviews the first lady, a Southern belle still mourning the death of her infant. With a mixture of horror and self-interest, Travis perceives the slightest hint that the first infant didn't merely die, but was murdered. But by who, and why? As you can imagine, that's when it gets messy. The book might capsize under the sheer weight of seamy scandals and sleazy characters were it not for the almost-supernaturally spunky Travis and her somewhat reluctant love-object, craggy ex-Marine Gray Bondurant. Bondurant left the White House under a cloud. Was he the first lady's lover? Travis and Bondurant come together to solve the mystery, of course. If you read fast, you might just keep up.

It had a little bit of everything!

Sandra Brown created a torrid, political thriller in "Exclusive". Barrie Travis, a discredited Investigative Reporter, has been given the scoop of a lifetime. Apparently, the First Lady of the United States (Vanessa Merritt) is trying desperately to tell her some secret surrounding the death of her child, who was believed to have died from SIDS. Determined to follow the leads where they may, Barrie sets out to reveal the truth at all cost, even if it means risking her life. Meanwhile, the sexy and but grouchy, ex-Presidential Aide, Gray Bondurant, is determined to rescue the 1st Lady from those nefarious individuals who are determined to keep her quiet.
There is an unscrupulous President with a secret to keep; doctors whose ethics have been compromised; a drug/alcohol abusing First Lady; a Mississippi Senator with his foot in politics and who appears to have created the perfect monster/political animal; an ex-military guy with no conscious; a decent plot and some sex thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed Exclusive and would definitely recommend it for those Sandra Brown fans or those short vacation readers. And while I thought the end was a little too cliché, and could have been better, it at least proved the old saying "everything is not as it appears".

Political intrigue
Rating (3)
Date: 2010-07-17
Brown paints a picture of political intrigue throughout her story of a reporter who finds the good luck of being summoned by the first lady for a private talk. But was it luck or a well planned out conspiracy. Her ethics and integrity are tested when her investigation directs her to what is surely a murder by someone at the highest political level.
Twists and turns keeps the reader turning pages. Even as the story ends its difficult to determine whom the villain is.
